La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms that Victor Osimhen, the star player of Napoli, is PSG’s primary transfer target if Kylian Mbappé leaves this summer. Mbappé has openly admitted his plans to leave PSG on a free transfer at the end of his contract in June 2024, but PSG wants to sell him this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal with the club.
According to Sunday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen will be PSG’s top priority if Mbappé departs. Napoli has already rejected a €100m bid from PSG and has set their asking price at €180m. The potential sale of Mbappé in the summer would strengthen PSG’s budget, potentially allowing them to meet Napoli’s asking price.
Despite this, the Serie A champions still hope to extend Osimhen’s contract beyond 2025 and have a good relationship with the player’s agent, Roberto Calenda. If Osimhen were to leave, Lille forward Jonathan David is reportedly Napoli’s primary target.
It’s worth noting that English Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all begun negotiations with Napoli for the signing of the Nigerian striker.
Meanwhile, Napoli has already initiated talks to extend Osimhen’s contract and is keen on including a substantial €200m release clause in the new deal, according to Get Italy Football.
Currently, Osimhen is still in Nigeria as Napoli generously granted him an extended holiday to enjoy a well-deserved break before returning to pre-season training. While the other Napoli players are set to convene at their pre-season training camp in Dimaro on Monday, July 10, Osimhen has been given additional time off due to his recent national team duties with the Nigerian national team, where he participated in the qualifying match against Sierra Leone on June 18 for the upcoming African Cup.
