Prophet, Boyfriend To Die By Hanging For Killing Final Year LASU Student

Philip Segun, a prophet of the Solution Chapel in Ikoyi-Ile, has been handed a death sentence by hanging by Justice Christiana Obadina of the Osun State High Court in Ikire.

Similarly, Owolabi Adeeko, the boyfriend of Favour Daley-Oladele, a final year student at Lagos State University, has also received a death sentence by hanging for his involvement in her brutal murder. Additionally, Owolabi’s mother, Bola, has been convicted of cannibalism.

Owolabi deceived Favour, luring her from Lagos to Ikire under false pretenses of meeting his uncle. Unbeknownst to her, Owolabi, his mother, and Prophet Segun conspired to use Favour for a money ritual. Tragically, Favour was murdered in the church, where Owolabi struck her on the head with a pestle. Her organs were used for the ritual, and her body was buried in a shallow grave outside the church on December 8, 2019.

Following the exhumation of Favour’s body by the police and the subsequent arrest of the suspects, they confessed to the crime. They were initially arraigned on November 15, 2021, facing charges of conspiracy and murder under relevant sections of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Laws of Osun State, 2002.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by Mrs. Adekemi Bello from the Ministry of Justice, presented nine witnesses and various exhibits, including the investigating officer. The convicted individuals testified in their defense without calling any additional witnesses.

Justice Obadina, in her verdict, established that the prosecution had provided compelling evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. Prophet Philip Segun and Owolabi Adeeko were found guilty of murder and conspiracy, while Bola Adeeko was convicted of cannibalism, which is an offense under the law.

During the plea for leniency, the defense counsel, Adeshina Olaniyan, appealed to the court on behalf of the defendants.

Consequently, the presiding judge handed down the sentences. Prophet Philip Segun and Owolabi Adeeko received death sentences by hanging for murder, along with 14 years imprisonment for conspiracy. Bola Adeeko, Owolabi’s mother, was sentenced to two years in prison for cannibalism.

Following his arrest, Owolabi confessed to using his girlfriend’s body parts to prepare a ritual meal called “victory soup” for himself and his mother in pursuit of financial gain.
