"Prepare for NLC Strike: Stock Your Home Up With Essentials," Labour Party Tells Supporters

The Labour Party has called upon its supporters nationwide to prepare for the upcoming indefinite strike organized by labor unions. DAILY POST has reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are planning to shut down the country’s economy on October 3 in order to advocate for improved working conditions.

In a statement released on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party leadership also expressed its endorsement of the proposed indefinite strike.

The party criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its perceived lack of concern about the nation’s hardships following the removal of fuel subsidies. The statement highlighted that economic challenges have compelled some parents to withdraw their children from school due to an inability to pay tuition fees.

A portion of the statement read: “The party fully supports the resolution of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to embark on an industrial action scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 3rd.

“The Labour Party is surprised that the government claims to have removed petroleum product subsidies and now generates over a trillion naira monthly, yet it struggles to address workers’ demands.

“On a daily basis, Nigerians are grappling with severe economic realities, including an inflation rate nearing 30 percent, a dollar exchange rate exceeding N1000, and a decline in per capita income.

“Many families are forced to withdraw their children from schools due to increased school fees, while criminal activities are on the rise.

“We believe that Nigerian workers have demonstrated sufficient patience and understanding. We are also using this platform to urge all our members and supporters to stock up on essential supplies in preparation for a prolonged mass action until victory is achieved. No retreat, no surrender.”
