Police To Exhume Mohbad’s Body For Investigation

The Lagos State police have announced their intention to exhume the body of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad. Mohbad’s untimely death on September 12 in Lagos under mysterious circumstances sparked public outrage, leading Nigerian celebrities and grieving fans to plan protests in several southern states, demanding justice for the deceased.

In response, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, recently established a 13-member Special Investigation Team to unravel the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. The team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saheed Kassim, has been tasked with various responsibilities, including the exhumation of Mohbad’s body, conducting an autopsy, and carrying out toxicology and histology tests, according to Owohunwa.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Special Investigation Team, Owohunwa explained that the team members would be stationed at the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department. He further outlined that the team was divided into four sub-teams, each responsible for specific areas such as forensic, technical, medical, and practical investigations.

Emphasizing that the command’s actions were driven by the overarching need for public interest and justice, Owohunwa stated, “The team will engage in the exhumation, autopsy, visit to the crime scenes, hospitals and past records that might be vital towards establishing the facts in relation to the case on that investigation.”

Acknowledging the complexity of the case, Owohunwa expressed confidence in the support of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who had promised to provide whatever assistance was necessary to ensure a thorough and professionally conducted investigation.

CP Owohunwa also outlined the team’s terms of reference, including gathering all allegations, suspicions, and insinuations from various sources to establish facts and identify crucial evidence supporting the criminal investigation. Additionally, the team is tasked with deploying forensic, technical, and other relevant assets to aid the investigation and identify all individuals connected, directly or indirectly, to the allegations being probed, including potential witnesses.
