October 1: No Going Back On Strike – NLC Sends Message To Nigerians

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have declared their intention to initiate a nationwide strike on October 3, 2023. In their 63rd Independence anniversary message, they urged all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences, to participate in this strike.

The labor unions called on royal leaders and concerned Nigerians to advise the government to listen to labor concerns and alleviate the ongoing suffering across the nation. They emphasized the need for united efforts to transform Nigeria into a prosperous and unified nation, urging citizens to work together to achieve this goal.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, highlighted the nation’s potential to be among the world’s leading economies. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging past mistakes, confronting current challenges, and collectively striving for a brighter future for Nigeria. The statement criticized the mismanagement of resources, corruption, and political instability that have plagued the nation. It questioned the decisions leading to the decline of crucial sectors such as education and healthcare.

The message encouraged Nigerians to question their leaders about the deteriorating state of the nation, especially regarding the economy, education, healthcare, and security. It urged citizens to seek transparency and accountability in governance, emphasizing the need for equal access to quality healthcare, education, and basic infrastructure for all Nigerians.
