According to the official statement released by LUTH’s management team in Lagos, Dr. Umoh tragically passed away on September 17 while attending church with his parents. The hospital management expressed its condolences to the grieving family and respected their request for privacy during this difficult time.

In an effort to clarify the circumstances surrounding Dr. Umoh’s death, the statement reveals that the last time he was on call occurred on September 13th and 14th, 2023. He was not on call on the 15th, 16th, and the day of his passing on the 17th. Instead, he was at home with his parents on September 16 and 17.

To further emphasize the facts, LUTH provided a detailed record from the Neurosurgery unit, dispelling any misconceptions regarding Dr. Umoh’s work schedule. In total, Dr. Umoh was on call for a total of four days in September 2023, clearly refuting the notion of an extended 72-hour shift.
