Exciting news for students preparing to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2023! The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for the commencement of the UTME. The board has also rescheduled its mock UTME due to technical hitches experienced in some centers during the earlier examination.
According to a statement signed by JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the mock UTME will now hold on April 18, 2023, while the UTME itself will commence on April 25, 2023. The mock UTME was initially held on March 30, but some candidates couldn’t take the exam due to technical issues.

JAMB conducts the mock UTME to test its preparedness and that of its partners for the UTME, as well as to give prospective candidates the opportunity to have hands-on experience with the CBT test environment. Candidates who couldn’t sit for the exam on March 30, but were present and screened for the examination, will have the opportunity to retake the mock exam on April 18.
The board has adjusted the UTME date to April 25 to accommodate other major and critical national assignments. This is to ensure that no citizen is denied the opportunity of exercising their civic responsibilities. JAMB cannot shift its examination dates further as other public examinations are billed to commence their exercises in early May 2023. Another factor is the need to accommodate institutions with stable academic calendars to resume as scheduled.
JAMB reassured candidates that it would continue to partner with relevant government agencies to ensure that its candidates receive the best. The board also solicits the understanding of all as it delivers on its critical mandate.
So, if you’re preparing for the 2023 UTME, mark your calendars for April 25, and don’t forget to take the rescheduled mock-UTME on April 18. Good luck!
