The 10th Senate, under the leadership of Godswill Akpabio, officially endorsed Olayemi Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during their session on Tuesday.
Cardoso’s nomination for the position came from President Bola Tinubu on September 15, 2023, securing his role as the CBN Governor for a five-year term.
It’s worth noting that Cardoso stepped into this role following the reported resignation of Godwin Emefiele, who had been suspended by the President in August.
Olayemi Cardoso boasts an extensive career spanning over four decades, with experience in both public and private sectors as well as contributions to the development sector as a leader and innovator. His background includes serving as a Commissioner in the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget. Furthermore, he chaired the board of the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance and held the position of Chairman at Citibank Nigeria Ltd for an impressive 12-year period until his resignation in 2022.
