Chukkol Assumes Role of Acting Chairman at EFCC, Replacing Bawa

President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Director of Operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulkarim Chukkol, to assume immediate control of the anti-graft agency due to the Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, being placed on indefinite suspension.

According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Bawa has been accused of significant misconduct while serving in his position since February 24, 2021.

Chukkol, who was promoted when Bawa took office a year and a half ago, holds a degree from the University of Maiduguri in 2000. He has also participated in various training programs, including the FBI National Academy’s Quantico Session 244 in 2011, the University of Virginia’s Postgraduate Diploma in Criminal Justice Education in 2011, and the United States Telecommunications Training Institute’s Cybersecurity and Spectrum Monitoring in 2010.
