The 28-year-old French footballer was acquitted last Friday by the Chester Crown Court, where the jury deliberated for three hours, regarding the allegations of sexually assaulting two women at his £4 million mansion. Although he had previously been found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in a January court case, he still faced a retrial for one count of attempted rape and one count of attempted rape related to lockdown-breaking parties.

Surprisingly, just five days after his exoneration, Mendy wasted no time in joining Lorient and returning to the football field.

The club expressed their delight in welcoming the 2018 world champion and four-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, as well as a Ligue 1 champion with Monaco. He will be wearing the number 5 jersey for Lorient. The statement concluded by extending a warm “Welcome, Benjamin!” to their new player.
