Abuja—Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has initiated a fresh legal action against President Bola Tinubu in the United States. The new case, identified as No. 23-5099 (N. D. III.), has been filed at the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
According to Mr. Phrank Shaibu, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communications, the decision to file the new suit led to the withdrawal of an existing case before a circuit court in Illinois. Shaibu conveyed this information in a statement released in Abuja.
He explained that Atiku withdrew the case before the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County, United States of America, to pursue the same matter in a higher court, thus avoiding the possibility of abuse of court processes.

Shaibu found it ironic that Tinubu and his supporters were celebrating this development as if it were a Supreme Court judgment. He emphasized that Tinubu’s academic records, from primary school to university, remained questionable, as the president had failed to identify a single former classmate.
Addressing recent events in Nigeria’s political landscape, Shaibu pointed out the ongoing ministerial screening at the Senate, where nominees disclosed their educational backgrounds, including primary, secondary, and university education. He contrasted this with Tinubu’s lack of educational history, noting that he had no primary school, secondary school, or university classmates, suggesting that Tinubu’s educational credentials were dubious.
