The Development Bank of Nigeria and the Grand Africa Initiative have announced their collaboration for the second edition of a training program aimed at empowering 200 young Nigerian women entrepreneurs. The program, titled “GAIN Entrepreneurship Masterclass for Women (Nigeria),” is set to commence in July 2022, as per a statement by the DBN and GAIN.
The course aims to equip selected women entrepreneurs from all over the country with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop and expand their businesses, thereby generating wealth and employment opportunities. The training will cover essential areas such as ideation, legal aspects, branding, marketing, communication, accounting, modeling, taxation, team building, and structure.
Dr. Tony Okpanachi, the Managing Director of DBN, highlighted the significance of the Women Entrepreneurship Masterclass, stating that it aligns with DBN’s objective of providing sustainable funding, building capacity among Nigerian MSMEs, and offering credit guarantee. The GAIN initiative, leveraging technology and promoting gender equality, is crucial for reaching a broader audience of women. The ultimate goal is to empower women to create opportunities that contribute to sustainable socioeconomic development.

Jerry Momoh, the Programs and Partnership Lead at GAIN expressed delight in DBN’s support and emphasized the program’s objective of empowering women to establish sustainable businesses. The training aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to generate wealth, create employment, and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development. GAIN is committed to supporting women and young people, recognizing entrepreneurship as a powerful tool for economic empowerment and gender inclusion.
The program targets women across Nigeria who either have an existing business or a business idea and fall within the age range of 22 to 45 years. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine interest in business and have access to the internet, an internet-enabled device, and electricity to participate effectively. The “GAIN Entrepreneurship Masterclass for Women (Nigeria)” will invite applications starting from July 4, 2023. The six-week program will include virtual training and mentorship sessions led by a faculty of experts in various aspects of business.
